Château du Champ des Treilles Le Petit Champ 2009 - France, Bordeaux, Entre-Deux-Mers, Sainte-Foy Bordeaux
14% abv; Biodynamic. An attractive scent, loamy, ripe and sweet, leans more toward red than black fruit aromas. Dense and rich, the tannins are quite soft, the fruit is a bit on the ripe side for my liking, but the whole is actually quite refreshing and moreish despite its size, strange to what should be a humble wine, and its sweetness. This is aged in big vats not Barriques. I like this for being a very classic style despite its size; and I like how the grapes are allowed shine without the obfuscating patina of oak.
Château Vénus 2009 - France, Bordeaux, Graves
13% abv. A very sweet and dark scent, glossy and polished and quite modern with plenty of new wood. It turns jammy in the glass. Rich and sweet with very little anything savoury to bring in the touch of freshness I would so like; much vanilla oak on the finish. I didn't really care for it, but it should be fine value for those who like a modern style.
