wine-related question

by Marlyne K » Thu Apr 28, 2011 5:19 pm

There used to be an area on a wine-forum that was a guide to pronouncing different wine names and terms. Any info on where I might find this? I'm still troubled by Nero D'Avolo...my friend and I pronounce it quite differently, and I think I'm right, but of course, he says he is. Even if my accent would be awful, I'd like to know how different things should sound.
Thanks for any info.

Near-oh Dahv-oh-lah. Accent on the first "syllable" of each word. Or so I'm told.

I'd suggest the following... NEH-RO DAH-VOLA that will sound slightly harder than we'd be used to saying if speaking in English.
With as much rolling on the R as you can get away with

The more wine you have the more you can get away with.

Epicurious used to have a page dedicated to grape varieties, descriptions and pronunciations but it no longer exists within their redesigned site.

Thank you all! Turns out my pronounciation was correct, which makes me very happy.
