The temperature hit 80+ degrees yesterday for the first time since last September. Too soon for my taste, but good weather for some Gamay-based wines.
Unfortunately a bottle of the 2009 Jean Foillard Morgon Côte du Py was obviously (even to me) and horribly corked. All that mess of removing wax from the bottle top, and then it's corked. Double curse.
So I zipped back down to the cellar and grabbed a bottle of Bone Jolly Rosé. I had no idea until I took a look at the label for a bit that it was the 2006 Edmunds St. John Bone Jolly Gamay Rosé. I didn't know I still had any of the 2006 still around in the cellar. It was still a reasonably bright pink, with just a touch of orange on the rim - quite pretty in the sunshine. The fresh strawberry aromas/flavors of youth have become more macerated berry, but still recognizably berry. A hint of orange peel was in the mix as well. Refreshing as always. Great match with a cold chicken salad.
