WTN: EdmundsStJohn Syrah Wylie-Fenaughty '03..(short/boring)

by TomHill » Tue Apr 26, 2011 1:00 pm

Tried this last night w/ my baked beans & lamb sausage:
1. EdmundsStJohn Syrah "Wylie-Fenaughty"/ElDoradoCnty (14.2%; www.EdmundsStJohn.com) Intuition & Blind Luck 2003: Med.dark color; strong earthy/mineral/ElDorado slight Rhonish/pungent rather blackberry/Syrah/framboise/lilacs/high-toned fragrant very pretty nose; fairlt tart light earthy/mineral/ElDorado/Rhonish some lilacs/floral/blackberry/Syrah very balanced flavor w/ modest tannins; long some tart earthy/mineral/Rhonish rather pretty/blackberry/Syrah/lilacs/floral/framboise finish w/ light tannins; speaks of ElDorado Syrah terroir; near about its peak I would guess; a quite pretty high-toned fragrant Syrah.

Wow, near its peak? It was rather closed and nowhere close to peak last May. I actually hope it's true, as I cellar a lot of Steve's wine, and love it when they reach some level of maturity.

Thanks for the note, Tom. I'm planning to hold my remaining bottle until 2013.

Near it's peak in that the tannins seemed quite resolved and very pleasurable drinking. But its doubt that it's
demise is emminent. Not sure how it will evolve, though.
