I have heard rumors (or, if we're being English, rumours) to the effect that it will be a sparkling apple wine. 8)

ive thought nyetimber wasnt bad
but article doesnt actually say it will be englsh, just that it might. i thought i saw an ad saying it was to be pol roger, but not sure where

In my experience, Camel Valley from Cornwall is better than just "not bad." Of course, they claim to be planted on an extension of the same chalk vein that lies under Reims and Epernay, but what does that prove?

Pol Roger NV it is. Decent celebratory wine yet modest enough in the circumstances to mitigate the inevitable cries of excess in these straightened times.

However there has still been criticism ranging from 'the wine might reasonably have been one of the English fizzes' all the way to 'it's not grand enough'. IMO they got it just right.
