WTN: 2009 Cazar Pinot Noir

This is a "second label" from the folks at Chasseur. It carries the Sonoma Coast appellation (and I'm guessing we're not talking the "true" Sonoma Coast here). $19.99 at the neighborhood wine store, 14.5% alcohol.

Medium ruby color. Expressive Cal-pinot nose with raspberry fruit, earth, and a bit of spice. In the mouth, it's a medium weight wine with plenty of complexity and good balance. It's potent from an old-school pinot standpoint but a lightweight compared with a lot of other Californians. Sweet-sour raspberry fruit on entry. Earthy-spicy-leathery notes along with a bit of mild tannins poke out of the full mid-palate and the wine finishes with all savory-spice.

This is nice stuff. It's well-balanced, very tasty and true to its variety (to the point that my wife complained about its "pinot-y-ness"). One of those that keeps you going back for more. Can't see this one improving a much with age, but it offers a lot of pleasure right now.
