WTN: Frappato, Riesling and Pinot Noir

by David M. Bueker » Sun Apr 17, 2011 10:41 am

2008 Arianna Occhipinti Il Frappato Sicilia IGT
Fresh red fruit, bright acidity and a back end hint of minerality - this is refreshing, food friendly and just fun to drink. No it's not profound, but it provides a high level of enjoyment.

2009 Meulenhof Erdener Treppchen Riesling Kabinett
This needed a good bit of air to really come together. At first it was rather un-knit, but then the yellow fruit, slate and acids came together. A good but not great kabinett.

2004 St. Innocent Pinot Noir Freedom Hill Vineyard
Fake cork...I was very worried. Yes it was somewhat advanced, but that essentially took it to near maturity, with red fruit, earth and a smoky element coming together. Lighter than many recent St. Innocent wines, it was quite food friendly and enjoyable to drink.

That was my impression straight on release. Thanks for the update - I will keep my hands off for some more time and drink the Spatlese/Auslese instead.
