2007 Maysara Winery Pinot Noir Estate Cuvée (USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, McMinnville)
What a nice wine! This is the first 2007 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir that I have really enjoyed...shows me what the vintage can be if done well. Aromas of lighter and darker cherry, with flavors of bing and a sort of blackberry fruit, lovely darker color (for a Pinot), and bright acidity. Many of the 2007's I've tasted have a hollow midpalate, but this wine had a full flavor throughout and a nice cherry aftertaste. A very well done wine. I am glad I recently joined the Maysara wine club if this is what the vineyard can do. A touch of drying tannin at the end suggests that it can age for another year or two, but it was very good tonight, and went quite well with grilled chateaubriand and steamed garden grown bok choi with tamari and balsamic vinegar. My wife, who usually has only a glass of wine, wanted several more of these glasses. That in itself speaks volumes for this wine. Point scoring would give it a 90. It definitely speaks of the Willamette Valley. 13.5% alc.
