Lost a third of my Zinfandel to frost!

Yes, two plants. LOL Had all six vines covered so I don't know what the heck happened. This vineyard management thing is a PITA!
Maybe I should rip them out and put in olives.

Hey, your ability to sound amused is praiseworthy but heck, we all hate it when anything we plant doesn't make it and something you were counting on to produce seem to be even worse. Throws off your whole life schedule. But hey, I thought where you lived, these things couldn't happen.

Well, Bob, we did have a couple of chilly mornings this week. But my newly planted lemon bushes didn't go Tango Uniform!
Supposedly one of the "good things" about Zin is that it's hardy. Perhaps you should leave the barren sticks in the ground for a while and see what happens. Anyway, olive trees are bigger and even messier.
And why, perchance, do you have The Beard on your pic?

Are the vines established? If so I am surprised that some spring frost killed the vines. Are you sure that it did not just take out the primary buds? If its just the buds that are impacted, wait and the secondary buds should push soon. I had snow one year after bud burst and did not loose single vine.

They're young'uns. Just planted as green last June. Yeah, I'm waiting to see if the secondary comes out.

To John: I'm Rincon Valley "AVA."

Or maybe I'll try hops...

Almost sort of kinda like a little bit maybe resembling the terroir of Kunde's home vineyards, eh? :)
