WTN: Yalumba Eden Valley Hand Picked Riesling 2000
I've been slowly working my way through quite a number these since release and the wine continues its ever upwards spiral. Thankfully, those "contentious" screw cap closures have done their job and I doubt whether this wine will begin to falter anytime before 2020. Following the brilliant, still infantile, starbright, straw/green colour in the glass, the bouquet impresses with fresh lime, kaffir leaf, herb, thyme with traces of oily petroleum and a superb haunting minerality which leads to a youthful, sublime palate holding incredible mouthfeel, perfect fruit and acid balance, wonderful flavour, impeccable delineation and a brilliant crisp, clean, ohso long finish and 94 points from me. Thanks be to the soul who looked after a bundle of these until recently and let me take a case off their hands for about ten bucks a bottle. A kind and most generous gesture. For a wine to be this good after so many years provides testimony to the calibre of all involved - the producer, the variety, region, closure and quality of cellaring - all of the very highest possible standard. 12.5% A/V for anyone interested.
