Tonight I had a few friends over and we had some great wine and food. I made the meatloaf from the Nov. 11 2004 Foodletter, it was awesome! I had two people eating meatloaf (and loving it) that swore they had never eaten it before and enoyed it. I was pleased.
To go along with that we had this quite memorable wine:
Dino Torti CastelRotto Barbera 2001 Oltrep Pavese DOC, $ 17.99
The wine is a clear shimmering garnett red with a very slight orange tint to it. The nose gives off aromas of spicy candy violets with a wonderful earthy undertone. This reminds me of the other wines from Lombardy I have drunk. The tastes follow the nose on the palate, though the earth takes a more forward role. It is crisp and light bodied with a wonderfuly earthy finish. The nose becomes a little
too candied as the wine reacted with the air, but this was none the less one of the most memborable wines I've had in the past few weeks.
