First Rose of 'Summer'

by David Creighton » Thu Apr 07, 2011 11:15 pm

we took delivery yesterday of our first two rose wines from the 2010 vintage: the sancerres of pascal and nicolas reverdy and vacheron. the later had traveled far and we had fewer bottles. my friend insisted on opening the reverdy. wow! this is just the best. maybe the best rose i've ever had. lovely clean fruit with great acid and just beautifully made. i need to get another case. i'm also looking forward to my 2 cases of pluzeau chinon rose - always a favorite. my favorite roses are from loire - lighter and cleaner and just delicious. will be traveling there to buy more of everything including bourguil and noble joue. this is going to be a fun summer.

Thanks David. The weather is supposed to get close to 80 (for a day) on Monday, so a rosé might be just the trick.

I had dinner at an Italian restaurant last night with two friends from church. They prefer sweet wine so one had a Moscato and I encouraged the other to try the Banfi Rosa Regale (which she liked.) I had a glass of the Cabernet Sauvignon rose' from Mulderbosch which I find to be a reliable drink from year to year. I am picking up some Bugey Cerdon later this month and the same shop has some "orange" wine which I may have to try. Other shops in the Triangle area started receiving shipments of rose' wines in March so I may check them out for a summer supply.
