WTN: 2008 Clos de la Siete

by Ron DiLauro » Thu Apr 07, 2011 9:17 pm

Just had this bottle tonight. A really nice Malbec blend
56% Malbec
21% Merlot
10% Cabernet Sauvignon
11% Syrah
02% Petit Verdot

Deep ruby purple pour with big lush legs. The blend was just perfect. It had a big bold taste that filled my mouth with all nice flavors. The finish was just about as big as the start. With most of the Malbecs I've tasted, they always finish very dry.... But totally enjoyable

I generally like this wine for its price, although some disdain it.

I'm not sure why this is misspelled so often, but I'm pretty sure this is Clos de los Siete, not la Siete.

Funny that you should right that directly below Matt's 'distain'

I wanted to double check, since I took the spelling of the bottle itself.

2008 Clos de la Siete Red Wine, Mendoza, Argentina This was the wine I tasted tonight

Looking at other 'hits' on the same wine came up with:

The Wines of Clos de los Siete, Tunuyan, Argentina
Clos de los Siete
2007 Clos de los Siete Mendoza
Clos de Los Siete Mendoza 2008 Argentina

So right now, I am not sure who is on first?

I don't believe "la siete" is grammarically correct in Spanish, since a plural noun (siete) should be match with a plural article (los, not la). However, I suppose it could be idiomatically correct.

Labels on CT look like Los, which is how I remember it. I don't disdain it. but I think it's not my style, too Rollandy.

Is this the label?

Image

And if you look at this write-up, the title is Clos de la Siete, but the bottle is clearly Clos de los Siete.. so.. pretty common error.. http://www.vinography.com/archives/2010/08/2008_clos_de_la_siete_red_wine.html

And, as if we need an `and,' as Ryan points out, la Siete is grammatically incorrect, not that a winemaker couldn't be incorrect.
