WTN: TreViti Syrah '08...(short/boring)

by TomHill » Tue Apr 05, 2011 10:37 am

Tried this last night w/ my Gardner-inspired pizza:
1. TreViti Syrah Anno di Lucia StoloFamilyVnyd/SLOCnty (14.5%; www.treViti.com) StephenRossDooley/SLO 2008: Fairly dark color; beautiful floral/violets quite spicy/cold-climate/peppery/blackberry/Syrah light roasted/Rhonish slight pungent/licorice lovely/perfumed nose; fairly tart womewhat rich/lush/blackberry/Syrah rather cold-climate/peppery/roasted modest tannins very balanced lovely flavor; quite long floral/violets/blackberry/Syrah some cold-climate/peppery ligt roasted/Rhonish finish w/ modest tannins; a lovely almost Pinot-like classic cold-climate Syrah at a very attractive price. $26.00

A wee BloodyPulpit:
1. The StoloFamilyVnyd is one of the coldest vnyds planted in Calif. Located in Cambria, it is about 2 miles from the Pacific. The Winemaker is SteveDooley. The mind-behind is Maria Bennetti.
This is a wnry I have, of course, followed from the very start. Their previous Syrahs have been very Rhonish in character annd, because of their acidity, reminded me a lot of EricTexier's Syrahs. This latest release not so much. A bit less Rhonish in character; it seems lless angular and a bit more rounder/softer than previous vintages. It is a very elegant/balanced rendition of Syrah, almost Pinot-like in style. But clearly cold-climate Syrah to the very core. Beautiful Syrah that should appeal to the AFWE crowd.

2. I hate, positively hate, wines like this. They are so friggin' good that one glass demands a next and, before the pizza comes out of the oven, you've drunk half the btl. Not good.

"before the pizza comes out f the oven, you've drunk half the bottle. Not good."

It's better if you can dislodge your tongue from your cheek! :P
I don't know just how I'm supposed to play this scene, but I ain't afraid to learn...

I guess I'm out of the loop - what is AFWE?

AFWE=Anti-Flavor Wine Elite
Some months ago, Parker, on his Hedonist'sGazette, gave a glowing review of some big/extracted/alcoholic/oaked red wine (supposedly the kind
that appeals to the ParkerPalate...if there really is such a thing) and then derisively dismissed anybody who wouldn't like this wine as a member of the
Anti-Flavor Wine Elite. Some people now wear that AFWE (not me) badge with pride to indicate the orthogonality of their palate to Parker's.
Over the last few yrs, Parker seems to occasionally toss out off-hand comments that seem to be condescending and dismissive to some folk that don't
agree w/ his take on a wine. Much ado about nothing as far as I'm concerned.

That's hilarious. Thanks for the explanation. I NEVER would have guessed that's what it stood for. I haven't really paid much attention to Parker over the last 15 years.
