Morrocan wine match help..........

by Richard Manley » Mon Mar 28, 2011 9:52 am

Hi,

Going for a Morrocan meal on Saturday where you can take your own wine and wondered what I should take along ??

My choice would be a Mosel Spatlese for a white and a Southern Rhone for the red.
I am still not 100% convinced by my selections though, any help or other ideas would be much appreciated.

Regards
Richard

Actually sometimes one can occasionally find Moroccan or Algerian (Sidi Brahim) wines in NYC.
Or maybe Musar?
Anyway, I think Southern Rhone isn't a bad choice, or maybe crianza Rioja.
And kabinett/spatlese Riesling is pretty adaptable, especially if you don't know exact menu

I'm not sure if you will be able to find it, but there is a nice Syrah made in Morocco by Domain Ouled Thaleb (in association with Alain Graillot) called Syrocco. The vintage I tried was clearly a warm climate wine, very rich, with lots of black olive notes, but I thought very well done. I think it sells for $15-$20.

Over here it's called Tandem. Strongly recommended. http://www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=530347
