Astoria NV Prosecco
Pale yellow with a shy nose of pear. Expressive midpalate of pineapple and lemon fruit with sparkling acidity. Pleasing medium finish.
Vineland Estates 2008 Elevation riesling (Ontario)
Light straw color. Nice petrol and apricot on the nose. A fruity midpalate with steely acidity and just a hint of residual sugar. Medium length finish with excellent balance. Very Germanic style wine.
Grapes were picked at 17 brix and wine is 8% abv. Grapes from 45 year old Weiss 21B clone vines. $20 I will definitely try to get some as I really liked this wine.
Fielding Estate gewürztraminer 2008 (Ontario)
Pale yellow with expressive lychee fruit nose and a hint of rose petals. Nice fruity midpalate with decent acidity and smooth tannins. Strong finish of lychees. Overall a good gewurzt.
Le Clos Jordanne 2008 Villages Pinot Noir (Ontario)
Ruby red wine with an oaky nose with toasty notes. Midpalate is quite spicy with green pepper notes and not much fruit. The short to medium finish is a bit tannic. Needs more time in the bottle. Probably not worth the $25 price tag.
Green Lane Estate Vidal Icewine 2008 (Ontario)
Deep straw yellow in color. Nice melons, ripe peaches and caramel nose. Gorgeous midpalate with nice fruit and great acidity for a vidal. Nicely balanced.
Corte Lenguin, La Coeta 2007 Amarone Classico
This single vineyard amarone has a deep garnet red color with a beautiful rich nose of violets and ripe plums. Wonderful midpalate with blackberry and plum notes that blend into smooth and palate pleasing tannins. Long finish of dark fruit and smooth tannins. One of the best amarones I have ever tasted. Worth the $50. Unfortunately only available by the case from the importer.
Reichsgraff von Kesselstatt 2007 Piersporter Goldtopfchen, Riesling Kabinett
Light straw color. Nice nose of light citrus. Midpalate a bit on the sweet side with nice fruit and good medium long finish. Maybe a declassified spatlese. Nice wine that needs some time in the bottle to burn off some of the sugar.
Gunderloch 1996 Nackenheim Rothenberg riesling auslese
Deep straw color. Expressive nose with melons, peaches, and minerals. Exquisitely balanced midpalate of ripe melons, sweet fruit, and mouth watering acidity. Long luxurious finish that lasts 30-45 seconds. Still fresh after 15 years
Wine of the show for me. This wine was under the counter and offered up by the importer on a individual basis. Found out it was from his own cellar and only offered to those who might really appreciate it, which I did. This is the only wine my wife, a riesling lover, wanted more than one taste of. That tells me something since she is not really into wine.
Mudhouse Pinot Noir 2009 Central Otago
Ruby red color. Earthy cherries on the nose Nice tart cherries and strawberries on the midpalate with some forest floor expression. Short to medium finish of nice fruit. Good balance.
