Growing up on Long Island during the 60's and 70's I spent a lot of time out on the Island by Stony Brook, The Hamptons, Montauk, etc. Back then most of the land out there was used for Potato and Duck Farms.
Now, when I return there (mostly to Sag Habor), I am always pleasantly surprised by the number of vineyards there. No question , the North Fork has the abundance of wineries and they do make some very nice Cabernet Franc's. But one of my favorite wines from the South Fork comes from Channin Daughters Vineyard. If you have been out there, you will have seen their trademark.
I dont know if to call it an upside down tree, or a tree growing in different ways.
But their Sauvignon Blanc (2009) was delightful. Crsip and Dry, with only a slight hint of citrus. But the crispness of this wine made it so good to drink along one of the many outdoor resturants by the sound enjoying fresh seafood.]
