2001 J & HA Strub Niersteiner Paterberg Riesling Spätlese ***
Probably about time to start drinking this wine in earnest. While it has lots of fruit, it has also taken on a burnished edge - sort of like dried orange peel. It's still quite sweet, so serve with very flavorful food, or just sip its on its own.

Surprised it's that developed (especially from the frigid glacial cellar). I had a bottle of the '01 Niersteiner Oelberg Kabinett recently (bought from CSW) that was drinking very nicely - certainly showing some age, but not showing that dried citrus peel note I associate with much older wines.

Hi David -

Thank you for the note. Like Salil, I'm also surprised that this wine is already showing the orange peel note. It's been a couple of years since I have had an '01 from Strub, though.

I don't find that Strub wines age all that well.
