Consolation prize

by Mark S » Sat Mar 19, 2011 11:49 pm

Seeing 24-inches of snow on the Weather Channel for my home area while on vacation made me think I made a wise choice in being in sunny (but air polluted) SoCal...until I was retrieving news that the snow was melting later that week. hey, nevermind, that's what sump pumps are for. Upon coming home, just had to check the basement and realized one pump had worked free of it's ring and was spewing water UP...ugh. I needed some variation of a Klondike Bar at that point, so after cleaning up a bit, picked a Breton Bourgueil 'les Perrieres' 2005 to go with lunch. Hmmm...is that Loire cabernet funk or something more sinister? Damn. That mustiness was from the wine, not my hands. Time for a re-load. Luckily picked a Proprieta Sperino Uvaggio 2006 for a replacement, and it was singing beautifully. Floral and savory, with a light feel, entertains notes of bitter almond, apple-skin, red fruits, with a touch of dust (unclear of oak dust or something else) this was a beautiful consolation prize. For drinking now and in the near future.
