WTN: Certan de May de Certan, Brocard Bougros

by Jay Labrador » Fri Mar 18, 2011 1:57 pm

Had a meeting with Jojo at his shop yesterday afternoon. Naturally, we had some wine to lubricate the discussions.

Chateau Certan de May de Certan 1990 - Surprisingly dark. Leather on the nose. Supple, ripe, fleshy and sweet. Strange rubber-like scent after airing a bit. Just about perfect now and very easy to drink. Excellent wine.

Brocard Bougros Chablis Grand Cru 2008 - Tart, some smokiness. Pineapple and green pepper. Lacked harmony. Probably needs lots more time to come together. I admit, though, I'm not really a Chablis fan.

Pomerol wines from vintage 1990 sure striked a positive rapport with me ... especially fond of those with the word "Certan" on their chateau names. But, overall, I thought Pomerol did very well in this vintage.

"Pineapple and green pepper" on the Chablis. Ugh! Those are classic ingredients in sweet-n-sour-pork in Chinese restaurants!

Thanks for the notes.

Ramon,

You may have something there with the Chablis and SSP! It didn't occur to me.

Bougros is my least favorite of all the Chablis grand crus. I'll take a good village or 1er cru over it anyday.
