Casual dinner (Schneider, Donnhoff)

by David M. Bueker » Fri Mar 11, 2011 10:44 pm

Laura's flight home has been egregiously delayed, so instead of a welcome home dinner after 2 weeks abroad, Salil graciously cooked some food to go with 2 Rieslings while I wait, wait, wait to go to the airport. (Still not time yet - not even close)

2009 Weingut Jakob Schneider Niederhäuser Hermannshöhle Riesling trocken MAGNUS
Yes the name sounds like some brand of condom mit pradikat, but it's good. It's seriously good. It's got all that Nahe red fruit to go along with orange & orange peel citrus over a bed of slate. It does not have quite the palate richness of a Donnhoff Hermannshohle GG, but then at half the price it is much, much more than half as good.

2009 Donnhoff Norheimer Kirschheck Riesling Spatlese
From a bottle opened (I presume) yesterday. This is sporting way more than a little baby fat, but underneath it all there is some nerve. To get there you have to plow through a whole lot of sugar coated cherries and peaches. Did I mention the sugar? Give this time, time and more time.

Not a bad arrangement.

My wife went to the airport tonight to pick up her sisters flying in from Germany. I stayed home with the baby, dinner, and of course wine (09 Pernot Volnay that needs time to open up so some 09 Huet LhL Sec to tide me along, although it too benefits from air).

Hi David -

Thank you for the notes. The Schneider Magnus sounds really nice - I'll keep an eye out for it.
