Humboldt County Wine University and Festival

by Jim Vandegriff » Wed Mar 09, 2011 4:44 pm

A wine university and festival is occurring at Humboldt State University on Saturday March 19th, 2011 focusing on the wines of Humboldt County, CA. A pdf file on the events (panels) can be found at http://humwines.com/HumboldtWineUniversity-About.pdf. More info on the tastings at the festival can be had at http://www.humwines.com/events.html. This looks like a great opportunity to me to taste the wines of some of the 42 wineries in Humboldt County, and to hear from people like John Cabot of Cabot Vineyards, Andrew Morris of Briceland Vineyards, and Bob Hodgson of Fieldbrook Winery. I bought my tickets this morning. (I have no association with the event other than as a wine enthusiast.) Cost is $40 for the tasting (including the food), and $35 at the door for the earlier university panels. Purchased together the tickets are $60 for both events. I'm looking forward to this!

Will the best known and finest agricultural product of Humboldt county be represented at the festival? Mendocino Gold is well thought of but Humboldt Platinum is considered a better product. Of course this is knowledge gleaned from newspaper articles.

We are broadening our views of Humboldt County agricultural products up here, Lou. You'll probably hear more names like "Kimberly's" and "Elk Prairie" or "Fruitland Ridge" than some of our more famous products names. All to the good...
