WTN: Lafite, Lindemans, Grahams

2008 Mulderbosch Chenin Blanc – light yellow wine, crisp and fruity but not showing much in the way of varietal characteristics. Pleasant and lots happening in the nose as it opened up.

2000 Lisini Brunello – good dark colour, nose a bit ripe, and with time adds sweet and vinyl notes, lots of fruit, soft tannins. Good wine.

1988 Ch. Lafite – cedar and lead pencil nose with very good concentration of fruit, mellow and drinks well now. Thought it might be a very good second growth.

1995 Ch. d’Armailhac – lighter colour, more tannin. bit leaner – elegant wine with good currant nose.

1992 Lindemans Pyrus – good dark colour, sweet nose with hints of rubber, tannins fully resolved, sweet on palate, fairly smooth. Developed some mint notes with time. Bordeaux blend.

1996 Lindemans St. George – quite a coincidence to have two of these at a blind tasting! This cabernet had a cocoa nose, slightly sweet, and good terminal acidity

2001 Errazuriz Vinedo Chadwick – another premium cabernet, this time from the Maipo Valley. Dark, sweet and ripe with a little tar and cassis, also ripe and sweet in the mouth, medium long. Not a bad ringer for a Cal-Cab.

1997 Turley Spenker Ranch Zinfandel – I like ageing my Turleys although many people do not. This one was lighter in colour than the previous wines had a warm sweet nose of dark fruit and finished with some definite spice at the end. Nice now.

1994 Rosemount Balmoral Shiraz – good characteristic syrah nose, on the sweet side, full flavoured and ready with good length. Drink now.

1983 Grahams Port – warm spicy nose bit of heat in the mouth, less sweet on palate than many Grahams, long lingering finish. Very good.

Interesting set of wines. Is this a group of things consumed over a period of time, or at one event. If the latter that sure is a strange grouping.

It is a brown bag blind tasting, so the mix is always completely random depending on what each participant brings.

Different group, I h0pe. I'll kill myself if I put down the wrong date again! Btw, the 88 Lafite sounds atypical, too soft. I own some so I've kept track of it, and it would have had to make a quick offramp to show like a second. Or at least, that would have been the case last I looked. Gulp.

Oh and another question. My tiny holding of Chilean wines includes the Chadwick--which I think you and I bought at the same time. What's your estimate of longevity based on what you tasted?

Different group, the Lafite showed decently but not superbly, and the Chadwick was good and has lots of time left. I havn't been into mine yet.
