I had a glass of this at French Bistro Night at Elliott's on Linden in Pinehurst, NC. The special menu had about four choices each for salad, appetizer, entree and dessert. I chose to have a Mojito to go with the green salad with Chevre and the drink was very nicely prepared and refreshing. I sipped the Burgundy with an appetizer of Gougere with Gruyere cheese, and an entree of Coq a Vin. For dessert I had the carmelized lemon tart. All of the dishes were delicious. I hadn't had Coq a Vin in a long time and loved the rich sauce, the trumpet and other mushrooms and the beautifully cooked chicken breast (tender with a crispy skin.)
The wine was a pretty ruby shade with some transparency. Berries and some florals on the nose--closer to roses than violets this time I thought. More "presence" on the palate than I expected. Kind of builds on all the surfaces of the tongue. Quite fresh and bright, the wine danced in the mouth. It sells for about $21 to $25 a bottle and I am planning to buy a couple bottles for home consumption.
The four courses plus Mojita cocktail, glass of red Burgundy and a decaf coffee came to about $60 for one. Quite a bargain considering the quality of the meal. (Last year I attended French Bistro night with a friend from church whose husband was out-of-town on family business. This year she is battling cancer and undergoing chemo treatments so would not be up to dining out. She was in my thoughts during the evening.)
