2000 Müller-Catoir Mußbacher Eselshaut Rieslaner Spätlese
Fantastic - tropical fruit and razor sharp acids. This is still very young, and the scritchiness that often overcomes Rieslaner is nowhere to be seen. It's a complete package. No hurry here.

That was really lovely. I've had very few German wines from 2000 that were really worth drinking (even some really good producers like Schaefer have been let downs), and this was brilliant - balanced, clean, powerful and I'm glad I have some coming now.

David -

Thank you for the note. I've never had a 2000 from Muller-Catoir, or anywhere in the Pfalz, for that matter - but this wine sounds like a real sleeper.

I am generally wary of 2000 Germans, but I would heartily recommend this wine if you find it & are sure of provenance.
