2001 G. Mascarello Dolcetto d’Alba Bricco
$18. Another winner from Mauro Mascarello. Eucalyptus, dark fruit, dried bitter orange peel, a bit of tar with food-friendly acidity and tannins that make you notice. Lovely, and a large step up from Mascarello’s Dolcetto Santo Stefano di Perno.

Hi Bill
I recently tried the 03 G Mascarello Dolcetto Santo Stefano and thought it was really good. It had a really nice freshness despite the 2003 vintage.

Here is my note : Very good and serious dolcetto. Lots of black fruits, berry, and purple flowers. Ripe but not over done, with big but supple tannins and great acidtity for a Dolcetto from the Year of the Sun. Longish finish. 13.5%abv, good value for $15. Definite rebuy.

I will have to look for the Dolcetto Bricco. These are great food wines.

Hi Marc, I really liked the '01 Dolcetto Santo Stefano but the Bricco sure has more stuffing. Havent had the '03's yet but your note makes me want to give that vintage a try. You are right, they are great food wines. That's what I enjoyed most about this wine. That it drank so effortlessly with a burger.
