WTN: Lingenfelder Riesling Spatlese Halbtrocken 1999

by Bruce Hayes » Wed Feb 23, 2011 9:53 am

Weingut Lingenfelder
Pfalz
Grosskarlbacher Osterberg Gutsabfüllung

Dark yellow-light gold in the glass.

Petrol, honey, spicy, baked apple on the nose.

Light to medium weight, juicy apple, honey, petrol, refreshing, spicy, light acidity, with a mild dirty-earthy streak.

Petrol, honey on the mouthwatering finish.

Rich and impressive in an understated way.

Purchased at $19.95 (Canadian).

Glad to see Lingenfelder is still imported to Canada. Back in 1999 when my wife and I made our first trip to Banff we ordered a bottle of the 1997 version of this wine. Sitting by a window in the Banff Springs Hotel wine bar, sipping a crisp German Riesling while staring out at the Canadian Rockies was an experience I will never forget!

Hi Bruce -

Thank you for the note. I don't have much experience with Lingenfelder, but it sounds like this was a very nice wine. Glad to hear that you enjoyed it.
