WTN: Bigger than a federspiel

by David M. Bueker » Mon Feb 21, 2011 4:50 pm

2006 F.X. Pichler Grüner Veltliner Federspiel Frauenweingarten (Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau)
This is richer than typical for a federspiel, more like smaragd in character. It is typical Grüner Veltliner though, with cress and pea elements over crisp fruit. The difference here versus a normal vintage federspiel is the weight of the wine, and the unctuous nature of the mid-palate. Very fine match with mushroom and pea risotto (I used some in the cooking as well).

Had that recently! You're right: spot on.

(Even bigger than Thor's head.)
