Clos St. Thomas "Château St. Thomas" 2006 - Biq'á-valley; 14% abv; Cab Sauv 35%, Merlot 35% & Syrah 30%There are a few serious wines from Lebanon apart from Musar, and this has the reputation of being one of them. It is aged for 18 months in new French oak (first warning sign for me!) and smells much like a Barossa Cab/Syrah blend: it is a purple, inky smoky, oaky concoction smelling strongly of mulberry jam. Very full bodied, deliciously tannic, fair acidity - apart from the sheer sweetness of fruit, this doesn't any more resemble your stereotypical Barossa.
Sadly once again, "seriousness" means lashings of new oak and relative anonymity. But I think - if I manage to step outside of my preferences enough to say so - that this is a very good wine of the big bruiser style.
