WTN: Diamond Creek Volcanic Hill 1989

by Jay Labrador » Sat Feb 19, 2011 3:25 am

Had a business meeting with Jojo yesterday afternoon at, where else? his wine shop. Naturally we needed some lubrication to keep the discussions going and so Jojo pulled this bottle from his stash.

Diamond Creek from Napa is quite famous but this is the first time I've tried it. Quite youthful looking and very fragrant, even upon popping the cork. Quite dry and still tannic on the finish. Medium-bodied, powdery graphite but otherwise lacking in flavor. Not too interesting. Jojo did caution that 1989 was an off vintage.
Three be the things I shall never attain:
Envy, content, and sufficient champagne.

With some exceptions it was a poor vintage no doubt.
