WTN: Two for Valentine's

by Saina » Wed Feb 16, 2011 4:37 pm

I made a dinner of lamb couscous for my future ex-wife. With it we opened two wines, both of which were wonderfully drinkable. First, I wanted to try again the Domaine Loew Muscat Les Marnes Vertes 2009 that I had tried when Etienne Loew was visiting Finland. It was a lovely dry Muscat then, but sharing a bottle tends to give a different idea than a glass in a long flight of other wines. And my goodness, how lovely it was: mineral, grapey aromas, quite appley, too. Bone dry but fruity and fleshy; good acidity. Fun. The sweet and aromatic style suited the moderately spicy North African food very well.

Since we cook with wine (sometimes even adding it into the dish...) we ran out and had to open a red. Weingut Becker Landgraf im Felsenkeller Gau-Odernheimer Spätburgunder trocken "J²" 2008 was a bit of a disappointment compared to the previous bottle: this is in most years a wine that I like very much even though it does see some new oak. Usually it is so well hidden that it doesn't bother me at all; and it was so with the previous bottle, but sadly it was showing a bit today. But it didn't obfuscate the pure Pinosity. It also had the most wonderful crunchy structure which meant that we finished this bottle too.

After a bottle each, we decided to try a homeopathic hangover prevention: huge amounts of water. :D
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.

Glad to hear you're in a relationship with so much potential.
