WTN: D'Arenburg Dead Arm Shiraz 1998

by Bruce Hayes » Sun Feb 13, 2011 8:20 pm

McLaren Vale

Decanted an hour or so before the meal.

Dark cherry red in the glass.

An incredible nose: floral, spicy, cedar, chocolate, creamy, coffee, cherry.

Medium to full bodied, dark chocolate, rich cherry fruit, raspberries, plum, sweet, spicy, smoky, good acidity, red licorice, chocolate, creamy, with a light alcohol burn toward the end.

A finish that goes on for minutes, featuring cherry, roasted notes, spicy, chocolate, red licorice.

An amazing wine.

Purchased at $39.95 (Canadian) back in 2001.

Nice to see some of the older D'arenburgs getting some love here. Had a 1998 '98 Ironstone Pressings recently that was hmmmm.....good.
