Opened two really light, refreshing wines last night with dinner that happened to be tremendous values.
2008 Meßmer Muskateller feinherb (Pfalz)
Fresh floral, herbal and mandarin orange flavours in a package that's very light on its feet with just a hint of sweetness and plenty of acidity keeping it perfectly balanced and precise. Surprised to see 12% alcohol marked on the label, it seems so much lighter and more delicate. At $16 this is a stunning value, and I love the screwcap!
2008 Clos Roche Blanche Gamay (Touraine)
Incredibly fresh, vibrant red fruited flavours with a faint peppery seasoning and a savoury earthiness beneath. This is all about refreshment and flavour conveyed with barely any sense of weight. Delicious. This one's under fake cork, and I'll be drinking the rest of mine very soon.
