Opened some nice wines to go with lunch as well...
2004 Willi Schaefer Graacher Domprobst Riesling Kabinett (AP #6) was incredibly delicious with classic Mosel apple and pear fruit over a bed of slate with some faint developing creamy notes emerging. Very elegant, precise and refreshing with classic Kabinett lightness of touch, yummy with the spring rolls.
2009 Baudry Chinon Franc de Pied just kicks ass. Much darker and richer in its fruit than Chinon normally tends to be, closer in its flavour profile to a top Bordeaux with a cedary seasoning to the fruit and a really polished, pillowy mouthfeel that I always expect from this bottling. Beautiful balance, depth and length. Amazing now, and I am really excited to see what will happen to this with a few years.
2001 Müller-Catoir Mußbacher Eselshaut Riesling Auslese was a great match with the intense spice of the stir fried chicken with Szechuan peppercorns and chillies. Power and sweetness of a Beerenauslese, packed with honeyed apricots, mandarin oranges and other tropical fruits but with that '01 acidity keeping it really nicely balanced. Delicious.
