Parker turns California over to Antonio Galloni

by Robin Garr » Mon Feb 07, 2011 4:43 pm

He's turning over the regular critical coverage of California to Antonio Galloni, pulling back his personal concentration entirely to Bordeaux and the Rhone.

Antonio is also getting Burgundy in place of David Schilknecht.

If nothing else it will at least be interesting.

Really! Is David leaving, or just falling back to Germany & Co.?

I'd say so. It certainly looks to me as if RMP is, and has been, seeking to expand the Wine Advocate team as a way to maintain the brand when he eventually pulls back and retires. Does that seem like a fair guess?

I have heard/seen many speculating about Mr. Parker's retirement. Me wonderth though, for if I am not mistaken, Parker is only 63 years old. Many of the world's most renowned wine and culinary critics are in their prime at that age.

Parker recently had significant knee surgery, and might just be slowing down a bit.

I'm thinking it would be good to model on Harry Waugh. Or Rogov, of course.

Perhaps he wants to collect social security while he still can?
