WTN: 2001 Dom. Robert Chevillon NSG VV

by Diane (Long Island) » Sun Feb 06, 2011 11:20 am

A recent note on the 2001 Chevillon Les Perrieres reminded me that I had one bottle of the 2001 Vieilles Vignes that I had been meaning to open. It was a very satisfying wine and is drinking well now. The nose was pretty with berries and hints of florals. It had fresh acidity with red berries and citrus (note to Dale....what I would refer to as high toned). Tannins were soft and the wine quietly slipped from berries to earthy on the finish.

Sounds delicious. I think I will hold off on the Vaucrains for now though. :D

Thanks Diane for posting your notes. The 2001 Domaine Robert Chevillon I had was the Les St. Georges, not a Les Perrieres. I wil try one of my two bottles of the 2004 NSG VV soon.

I hope you enjoy the 2004, although it should be a different experience than the 2001. Thanks for the correction - I don't think I've had a Les St. Georges.

There are strong rumors that Les St. Georges will be upgraded to Grand Cru, so buy now before the price triples.

Nice note, thanks. I'm a fan of this bottling , great value,
I admit I'm a bit bewildered by thread on other board re high-toned. Some seem to use it like I do (VA, but not excessive). others red fruit with lift (lift is basically VA, so I get that), but others are adamant that high toned means just red fruit. I just don't understand why one would say high toned if they meant "raspberry." :(
Lots of words have different meanings to different people. but personally I'm surprised that this could be used in a sense that didn't include "lift."
David, Les St Georges is one of the top names mentioned when people talk about 1ers that deserve upgrade, but this is first I've heard that it might actually be in the offing.

Schildknecht mentioned it some time back. Of course if it moves at the same pace as most things we could expect resolution in 2045 or so.

Dale - I use "high toned" to include a modest amount of citrus with red berries. If it has even the smallest amount of VA, then I don't like it.

I'm very excited - I just bought 2 bottles of the 2008...I know I'll regret not having more, but I was supposed to be on a buying freeze this month, so I used restraint.

Now, I am too. I hope it happens in my lifetime.
