WTN: A Cal. Cab. and 2 dessert wines

by Jim Grow » Mon Jan 31, 2011 2:41 pm

We had a couple over for an afternoon and evening of euchre and supper. During the afternoon I opened a bottle of Dry Creek Vineyard LHSB "Soleil" 2003. It was perfectly sound with lots of apricot flavors and good acidity. Abv of %13 and R.S. of %9.0. Probably will still be going strong in another 5 years. With lasagna we drank the 2007 Balius "Oakville" Cabernet Sauvignon. It was decanted for 6 hours and was quite ready to enjoy with med.-full bodied black fruits, mostly cassis and good smooth tannins. Not a contemplative wine and probably never will be but very pleasant now and should improve over the near term. We finished up after supper with a 2003 Artesa LH Gewurztraminer that was also in perfect shape. ABV was %11.9 and R.S. was %9.8. Some distinguishable Gewurzt. flavors but slightly lacking in acidity. Drink up! A nice nite of long-awaited card playing (and my wife and I even won 4 out of 7 games)!

Artesa makes a nice moderately priced Cabernet Sauvignon also.
