WTN: 2005 François Pinon Vouvray Cuvée Botrytis

by Salil » Tue Jan 25, 2011 10:49 pm

Bought a couple of bottles after Jay Miller's very enthusiastic recommendations. Right now I'm very glad I listened!

This is truly amazing.
An essence of pure Chenin fruit and honey conveyed with a level of purity and elegance I've rarely ever encountered in any sweet wine. It's very sweet and primary, rather undeveloped but irresistible right now with a combination of primary fruit, honey and really good acidity that keeps the whole package incredibly light, fresh and drinkable. The length and balance here are astounding, and I can barely imagine what will happen to this with some time as it develops in bottle.

And Pinon is said to have "inferior terrior"... :)

I have several bottles of '96 Pinon's 1er Trie and it was similarly fantastic. Really a marvelous producer IMO.
