I am not a sports fan. You could eliminate all sports teams in an instant with a magic wand and it would take me months to notice (and be grateful that they would no longer interfere with TV schedules!).
One thing that it is kind of fun to get interested in are food contests, if only for the pictures from which you try and conjure up what the tastes might be. And I don't mean the ones you see on Food Network, but the real ones like the Bocuse d'Or, which is held later this month in Lyon.
Canada is a finalist and it is a young chef from Haida Gwai (that's a native name like all the ones that appeared on local highway signs as a bribe to prevent native discord at the winter olympics - and that even my native friends haven't a clue how to pronounce). Better known as the Queen Charlotte Islands, where chef Ryan Stone works at a fishing lodge. Talk about coming from the back of beyond to the big city!
All the Canadian teams have come from BC - Vancouver is indeed a cook's city. Best showing ever for a North American team was a 4th place by Canada iby another Vancouver chef. Hopefully Canada (or perhaps the USA) can make it into the top 3 this year.
Take a look at what they will be making:
