Sur Lie

12 % abv. Louis/Dressner Selections
My previous bottle of this wine tasted heat-damaged. This one was fine. I had a glass as an aperitif and a second glass wtih baked chicken breasts in a lemon-asparagus sauce with rice. Straw color with transparency. Possibly more lemon and less seashell and salinity than some Muscadets but pleasing. I think it paired even better with the chicken and lemon-accented sauce than it did the next night with mussels in garlic sauce. Not sharply acidic but holding its own--not tasting tired.

Plastic cork? Might explain variability.
My bottles of Pepiere normale never make it past vintage, but no reason (other than cork) for it not to last several years.

The 1988 (real cork) was fantastic a few years ago.

It may have been a sythetic cork--sometimes I note that but this time I didn't record what type of cork the bottle had. I believe I read elsewhere that some of the 2007 Pepiere Muscadets did arrive on the market heat-damaged and that's what the first bottle indicated. I was quite disappointed when I opened it in October 2009. I believe the reports about heat-damaged bottles were on the erobert bulletin board.

It still is, Jay. Pure saffron nose. A prodigious wine.
