WTN: Chablis, Faiveley, Tokaji

Notes from another afternoon at Jojo's shop to try a couple of his new imports. Happily, I needed to be there anyway to take care of some business with Masseto so I guess I had a good excuse to be drinking on a Friday afternoon (not that I need one, anyway!)

Domaine Brocard Chablis 1er Cru Vau de Vay 2008 - Stony, steely, razor-sharp and all lemon. Not really in a good place right now. Will age bring out more nuance? I'll admit I'm not much of a Chablis fan.

Faiveley Chambolle Musigny 1er Cru Les Fuees 2008 - Lovely fragrance, sweet wood and a bit of menthol and pine. Rather meaty for a burg. Sour cherry and raspberry. Vibrant. Surprisingly approachable although at one point the acid became really strong but the fruit caught up with it after a bit. Excellent.

Kiralyudvar Tokaji Ilona 2003 - Orange liqueur and caramel on the nose. Intense wine but exquisitely balanced. Greg said he detected tamarind and I agree with him. Candied pineapple, dried mango, and on the finish, raisins and prunes. Very fresh, fantastic stuff.

Thanks again to Jojo for sharing.

You are a brave man drinking such a young bottle of Faiveley!
