WTN: Nice Loire fizz that comes with horrible marketing

by Saina » Tue Jan 11, 2011 7:39 am

Pure Bagatelle Ruby NV is a "natural" Rosé sparkler aimed at 21-35yo women. The PR surrounding the bottle is such that if I were a woman I would be offended at this being made for my demographic. Take a look at the PDF - am I overreacting? Is it not quite so terrible?

I would love to hate this wine based on this PDF, but I can't. It is a blend of Pinot Noir and Cabernet Franc. Light salmon pink. Lovely freshness and surprising depth; despite the CF the aromas are full of floral Pinosity. Small, elegant bubbles. Light but fruity, good acid, persistent, mineral finish with, again, lovely Pinosity showing. Marketing aside, this is everything I like to have in a pink fizz.
I don't drink wine because of religious reasons ... only for other reasons.

As someone who dislikes advertisements in general, I will say that is one truly unsubtle piece of marketing sloganeering full of hackneyed buzz words and concepts.

Maybe that's why it will work? (Especially since it sounds like they have decent wine).

My thinking, too. BTW, is "naturality" an English word?

It sounded off to me too, but it appears in an online dictionary.

Umm! Just one entry compared to 22 for "naturalness" http://www.thefreedictionary.com/naturalness .

Two female friends I showed the PDF to thought this was a perfume ad before they started reading...

I think it is a terrible shame that this sort of really good wine might not reach many people who would like it - I certainly wouldn't have bought a bottle with this sort of marketing.

Based on the ad, I'd skip the wine. Based on your description, Otto, I'd like to try it.

No offense meant, but I think you may be over-reacting.

Here in the States, this pdf looks like the kind that Marketing people use to pitch to private investors, capitalists and internal/external business partners. Marketers need to pitch, among other things, the product appeal and the target audience and demographics. The finished product and finished public advertisement will definitely be tailored to the intended demographics, but not to the extent of being as blatant as the internal “pitch” material, as this pdf seems to be. If this pdf was meant to be shown to the public as an advertisement, then it’s not a smart way of advertising. Is it?
