WTN: Norman Hardie County Chardonnay 2008

by Bruce Hayes » Mon Jan 10, 2011 9:26 pm

Prince Edward County (Ontario)

Yellow-light gold in the glass.

Vanilla, caramel, toast, smoke, spicy, apple on the rich nose.

Medium weight, tangy acidity, fresh, apple, lime, light lemon, mouthwatering, refreshing, charred-toasted notes, caramel, sulphur.

With time, the wine became quite tangy, with the fruit receeding somewhat and the oak influnce becoming much more dominate.

Very mouthwatering, tangy and heavily toasted on the finish.

A leaner style of Chardonnay and I liked it.

Screwcap closure.

Purchased at the winery for $35 (Canadian).

Yes, I thought they were a little lavish with the oak at Norman Hardie. But they do have fruit and minerality too - maybe more time would have tamed the oak a bit...

I don't recall the wine being overly oaked when I tried it at the winery in September. I wouldn't have bought it if I had.
