Drinks drunk over the week:

2005 Rene de Lacroix Gevrey-Chambertin ‘La Croix de Vigne’, Burgundy
Meaty, horsey, mushroom nose. 13% abv. Savory, acidic, tannic, tart and sour red berries. I like this rustic, kinda throwback GV. B

2002 Charles Schlerret Tokay pinot Gris, Alsace
Smelled a little bit of tropical fruit and lychee. Off dry and tasted like a mixed cocktail in a dive bar where one should stick only to bottled beers. C

2009 Christophe Pacalet Beaujolais-Villages, Burgundy
Started quite harsh but improved with bold-flavored foods. Thinned down near the finish. Also, some lime(?) in the watery finish. C

2004 Castello di Monsanto Chianti Classico Riserva, Tuscany
A good drink, food or without. A medium-bodied wine, with a lively acidity, compact, savory component, shows appropriate level and ripeness of red fruit. A very good QPR of a CCR. B+

2005 Domaine Costal ‘Les Truffiers’ Chablis, Burgundy
Dry, mineral, slate, rustic, and a good, basic Chablis. B

Brooklyn Brewery Pre-Production Style Lager, Brooklyn, NY
Light amber color. Medium bodied, lingering yeasty flavor that gives way to a slight bitter mineral water aftertaste. I like the rounded middle, drank well by itself, but was not a good match with some Japanese take-out. B

2001 Neal Family Vineyards Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon, California
Tough, thick, heavy-duty foil capsule. Secondary bouquet showing leather and cigar. Plenty of sweet black fruit, with some tannic bite. Creaminess and cake at the finish. My wife said still young, I said drink now because I thought I waited too long with this bottle. B-

Sorry about that. I wanted to change the "WTNs" on the subject to "TNs", but site error message keeps coming up every time I try to do so.

Red Hook Winery gets its grapes from LI but has its winery facility in Red Hook Brooklyn. I tasted a skin-contact sauvignon blanc of theirs that was pretty brettastically rancid in my opinion. But it was just the one bottle so who knows how representative it was.

Yeah, Lacroix was new to me too. At $15, it was worth the experiment with a couple of bottles.
