I pulled some wines out of the cellar last night for kipper and his wife. The CDP was a bust, but the two Gigondas made up for it.
- 2007 Domaine de Vaugondy Vouvray Sec - France, Loire Valley, Touraine, Vouvray
A relatively new vouvray in the BC system, so I wanted to try it out. A very, very dry vouvray. Mainly apples on the simple nose, but primarily lemon and grapefruit on ther medium-bodied palate. There's nice intensity here, mianly due to the incredible acidity, but there is fruit and minerals too. Reasonable QPR certainly, and nice with a chicken soup I made. I might buy another bottle and age it a bit to see what happens. (B+) - 2000 Bosquet des Papes Châteauneuf-du-Pape - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

This wine was singing last night. A beautiful nose, mainly of the meaty, leathery and earthy variety. A velvety, medium bodied , and complex palate, with the syrah notes coming to the fore: mainly meaty, gamy notes, with cherries and plums as well. Lovely aged Gigondas that is a point now but will last a few more years. (A-) - 2000 Domaine Brusset Gigondas Les Hauts de Montmirail - France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Gigondas
I pulled out another 2000 Gigondas, as the previous one tasted so good. This was a nother winner, very similar to the St Cosme. The sryah also seemed to be most prominant, and this was drinking really well now. Great balance, no overt oak, tertiary notes but still intense on the medium bodied palate, and with a nice finish. Lots of raisons and dates on the nose and powerful palate. Very viscous and sweet, although it did finish a tad drier than it started. Very unique as always, and a fun way to end the evening. (A-)
