Some dinner notes:
2008 Londer Vineyards Anderson Valley Gewurztraminer – hard to find a good dry Gewurz from California that isn’t over the top on alcohol, but this wasn’t tooo bad at 14.2%. Sweet spicy nose, sweet entry, drying out toward the end, and finishing fairly dry. OK, but not price competitive with equally good BC wines.
1988 Ch. Gloria – my contribution as I have several bottles and wanted to assess them for drinking window. A really enticing plumy spicy nose, smooth and supple on palate with very little tannin left, this will not get any better but offers considerable pleasure right now. Drink up.
2000 Black Hills Nota Bene – this locally produced Bordeaux blend has near cult status here as a result of limited quantity (waiting list) and excellent quality. The nose on this was really interesting, dark fruit and cassis overtones, and as usual, the wine showed good body, soft, with good acidity. Now ready to drink up but should hold a few more years. Local pundit Tony Gismondi tasted a bottle with a bizarre and uncharacteristic nose and panned it, so you might be able to find bargain bottles.
