Need help with wine shops in Atlanta Area

by J Eppes » Fri Jan 07, 2011 5:22 pm

Hi...I will be in North Atlanta (buford) next week and would like to find stores that specialize in my wine.

I drink Mosel Rieslings, Alsace (all wines), Loire (all wines) Even found a Pinot Noir (Markowitsch) from Austria that I enjoyed.

I usually buy from Kermit Lynch in Cali, Nancy's Wines in NYC, Chambers Street Wines in NYC, Discount Wines in Chicago and several others around USA.

Any stores in the Atlanta area that will specialize in my wines?

Cheers and Thanks for the help

I'm not good with Atlanta geography, but I've been told Greens on Buford Highway (which must be close!) is good. I've also been told Tower, Ansley Square, & Sherlock's are good - no idea if close to you. I visit Alpharetta area, Hinton's there is ok (but GA prices are generally higher than NYC).

Thanks for the stores... I will check them out. That Greens on Buford Hiway is quite a hump away.... Buford Hiway is like Peachtree Street ...IT RUNS FOREVER!!!!!

Amazin ain't it... I buy from NYC not only because of the great selection and knowledge of folks who work at those store...But the prices are CHEAPER!!!!

What are you favorites there NYC / Manhattan?

Washington DC also has a couple of great stores in Addy Bassin's MacArthur Beverages and Calvert Woodley.

In NYC:
Chambers is the best store in the world. :)
Astor and PJs can have really good buys. Crush has fantastic selections, and occasionally great deals

In greater NYC area
Zachys is famously expensive, but if you are price-conscious and know market, sometimes they have amazing deals.
Grapes in N White Plains aims at upper end, but sometimes has great closeout or other deals. For styles of wines you favor he (Posner) hasn't been a real specialist, but lately added Lyle Fass to staff, more offers for Riesling and Muscadet
I sometimes also find deals at WineLibrary. Pops, Post, Wine Connection.
