WTN: 2008 Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc, New Zealand

by JC (NC) » Thu Jan 06, 2011 1:50 pm

Two glasses of this at Chris's Steak House with Caesar salad and grilled mahi mahi, broccoli and rice pilaf. My first impression was that it was very fragrant. I found lemon or lemon-lime meringue note plus a bit of gooseberry. Not too grassy unless it has a hint of lemongrass. Some pungency and pucker but pleasantly so. Some viscosity on the glass and a tingly quality on the tongue. Long finish. To me it didn't become tiresome with the second glass but remained refreshing. I've liked recent vintages of Cloudy Bay (2007 and 2008) better than some from five or six years past but I'm not certain that it is worth the premium purchase price over other Marlborough SBs.

Was this a 750 or a 375? Sounds very nice.
Yes, and how many deaths will it take 'til he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind
The answer is blowin' in the wind.

Probably from a 750 ml. bottle but I was having two glasses at a restaurant.
