Still playing catch up!

`05 Fonterutoli Chianti Classico 375ml.

Big darkish ruby red, no sign of age. Mixed dark berries on nose, hint of oak still, cherry earthy. On palate plum, hint of leather, some spice. This is quite dry, good refined tannins. Tad earthy I guess, full-bodied, very nice, lengthy finish.

`03 Weinert Gran Vino Mendoza Arg.

One of the top wines I tasted this past year. 14.5% alc. 40% Malbec, 40% CS, 20% Merlot. Should have a much bigger following, $25 Cdn.
Plum, cherry on nose, some meaty tones too. Deepish ruby-red, very bright looking, slight bricking.
Rich dark fruit, drinks great! Cherry, plum, nice balance, v good acidity. Could take some more cellar time but why wait.

`07 Les Ruffes La Sauvageonne, Languedoc.

Only $18 Cdn, 13.5% alc, tasted at "Best Bang for the Buck". Warm earthy nose, black fruits, smoke, meaty. Nice color, good depth. Quite dry, not a lot of ripeness here. Excellent structure, more of an easy-drinking style. Good with aged cheddar.

`07 Chateau de Trignon Roussanne, Rhone V.

Always like my Rhone whites. V pale yellow, lime floral nose, pear scents. Nice acidity, brief hint of RS, minerally, quince, apple, peach. Did not find it that nutty? Buy next time around.

Yes, Bob! Is there a better producer in Argentina? In South America? Weinert reminds me so much of Italian (though with both Piedmont and Tuscany represented, oddly.)

Cheers,
Bill

Bill, there are hints over in the UK that style has recently changed at Weinert? Have u had a chance to taste some of the more recent vintages say of the Cab or the Malbec? Might have to do an Open Mike to see what is going on eh. You game?
