After logging in here and catching up on all the news, which blog site do you steer yourself towards? I tend to visit the European blogs first but have a whole bunch bookmarked!

Right now I find Sarah Ahmed to be right at the top of my list along with Jim Budd who is an expert on the Loire. Jim spends a fair amount of time there as he has some property right in the valley. Jamie Goode and Chris Kissick both post here and deserve honorable mention!

Here is the Wine Detective, Sarah Ahmed.....>

I frequent http://www.winepress.us, which is very similar to Wine Lovers Page, except the content is more about wine making and grape growing.
Chico - Hey! This Bottle is empty!
Groucho - That's because it's dry Champagne.

I think that there are a remarkable number of high quality blogs around towards most of which I was first pointed by you, Bob. I particularly appreciate Jim Budd, Rosemary George and Chris Kissack who give excellent coverage of areas in which I am particularly interested.

I often wonder about the economics of blog writing. There has to be a considerable investment in time and travel and it is not clear to me what, if any, return the blogger gets on his/her investment. Any clues??

Good question Tim. Chris K is a doctor in Scotland, at a big hospital. Have to wonder how he finds the time for his travels, his writings and such. Guess it is pure love!

David, good one. Thor I believe.

David, I checked it out for the first time, having read your response, and found most of his notes negative...what am I missing?

A) Aren't negative notes useful?

B) Thor is an old WLDG participant/friend for many folks around here, including David.

I don't really check in very regularly to any blogs. The wine boards are enough. But, those that I do check are mostly from participants/former participants on the boards:

Lyle Fass: http://rockssandfruit.blogspot.com/
Nathan V: http://vlm-tr.blogspot.com/
Sharon: http://sharonwine.blogspot.com/
Cory: http://saignee.wordpress.com/ (good for the month-long series on natural wine)
and of course, Joe Dressner: http://captaintumorman.com/

So that's where Thor went (oenoLog). I love his tasting notes. And every one is absolutely idiot proof. He doesn't just write "Trimbach 1999 Riesling," he adds "(Alsace)," something his TNs on this board taught me to do until I got too lazy.

From those already mentioned, enjoy reading Thor Iverson's, Lyle Fass' and the VLM's.

From those not yet mentioned: Keith Levenberg's blogs (older and newer are really good reading).

I, too, guess that is the answer as far as Chris K is concerned. Consultant's fees probably help a lot to finance the travel but how can he find the time?

As for the others, I can't see the blogs generating any substantial income directly, except if there is advertising and I haven't noticed any on those which I frequent. So pure love combined with a decent income from other sources must also be the explanation there :D .

Wow, thanks for the link, I'm really enjoying this one. The style (and substance) of the notes really speak to me even though I'm not long enough into this world to get much out of the whole aging discussion.

There's a rumour going around that it is Joe Dressner who is actually writing the blog.
